Jason McDonald is an experienced independent director, executive and infrastructure advisor with more than 30 years’ experience across the energy, utilities, critical infrastructure, technology and infrastructure services sectors.

He currently serves as Chair of Connetics, a specialist electrical infrastructure design, construction and maintenance business; Director of CentrePort, New Zealand’s central-region port and logistics infrastructure business; Director of Kordia, a critical communications and cyber security company; and Director and shareholder of Helios Energy, a privately funded utility-scale renewable energy developer. He is also a director of CentrePort’s captive insurance company.

Jason has held more than 14 governance appointments across energy, infrastructure, transport and technology. His recent board experience includes nine years as an independent director of Orion, one of New Zealand’s electricity distribution businesses, and four years with Clarus, an energy infrastructure company spanning gas infrastructure, electricity generation and distribution. He has also served as a director and Chairman of Mevo, an independent electric vehicle car-sharing company, and as an independent director of electricity distributor and geothermal generation company Top Energy and public transport operator Red Bus.

Across his executive and governance career, Jason has developed extensive experience in strategy, M&A, capital investment, infrastructure development, regulated businesses, transformation, risk management and stakeholder governance. His executive career has included senior leadership roles in the energy sector, with a particular focus on electricity networks, renewable generation, infrastructure investment and business development. He has been involved in major investment decisions, transactions, organisational transformation and the development of long-term strategies in complex and highly regulated environments.
